Special care for severely plucked bird
I have a newly adopted sun conure who is a severe plucker. Her former owner did everything she could to stop the plucking according to the adoption papers/vet records. I'm just going to continue trying to give her lots of attention and things to do, but also accept she will probably always pluck. Her follicles are so damaged that even if she stops she'll be bald over most of her body: she is bald on her entire back, tops of her wings, chest and abdomen, and legs. She also chews on her tail a bit.
What special care should I be giving her? I'm turning off the ceiling fan over the sofa when I hold her, and I have a blanket over the top of the cage to protect from any drafts. Can I take her into the shower daily? She seems to enjoy it. Afterwards I put her in the cage and cover it totally until she's dry. Would a daily shower be too hard on her bare skin, or would it help her to maybe not be so itchy and want to pluck?
Any other tips I need to know? Thanks! :)
