expensive grooming!!

What does everyone pay for beak/nail/wing trimming? Just curious. I usally do my own birds, but I wanted to have the vet do the new girls because I didn't want them to hate me when they are just getting to know me. I called the vet and he was going to charge $20 for each bird! Or I could get a health checkup for $85/first bird and $65/second bird with complimentary grooming. They just had health checkups recently so I just wanted the grooming-- but $40?!

I ended up doing it myself this morning. I just got them from the sleeping cage and they didn't see me, I wrapped them in towels and did it. Took 5 minutes and they didn't hold it against me at all. I would rather save the $40 for when they need real vet treatment, KWIM?

I think the rescue I got Zooo from does complimentary beak/nail/wing trims for all their adoptees but I just do my own. The drive there and back is 6 hours total.

Well the vet close by to me charges $14 just for wing clipping alone. I go to the breeder I got two of my birds from and she does anything I want for free.
Glad you were able to do it yourself without any grudge holding from the flock!

That's a lot of money, I would have done it myself too. Good that they don't hold a 'grudge'.

Do you have grooming perches near the food dishes? I've never had to groom my guys' nails because the perches keep them very trim.

My vet charges 30 for beaks/wings/nails and just 20 for the wings. I'm personally more comfortable with him doing the grooming than myself doing it, so I just hand over the cash.

Our vet charges $10. for each procedure for each bird. So if I want the full grooming, beak, nails, wings it would be $30. each bird.

Vets are expensive for everything. You should try and find a good groomer who will do it. We only charge $5 for wings and $5 for nails. Most groomers will do a way better job than the vet anyhow.

expensive grooming

Almost all parrots do not need their beaks trimmed. Some do develop a sharp point but if you give sandy or cement perches it should correct the problem. If a bird has a crooked beak or constant peeling and excessive lenght it is usually caused by liver problems. Only a vet should trim beaks they can crack easily. Then gice this bird MIlk thistle in it's water twice a day. This helps the liver to function correctly.

I do my Hahn's beak, but I only ever need to do the pointy little tip, so I don't have a dremmel or anything. I charge different prices for grooming depending on how big the bird is. $8 for wings, $6-10 for nails.
