Young budgie confusion, he hides all the time

ok, So I got a budgie a couple days ago and named him Elation. He's really young and sweet but he seems to want to hide, all the time.

I don't know how young he is but his cers are white with just a tinge of blue. He eats fine and such. But he's constantly hiding. it seems that he would rather be curled up in my tshirt then be playing with toys or such. And if I take him out, he trys frantically to fly or goes and stuffs himself in a blanket or between pillows.

I'm worried about squishing him because of this.

Help with this? What is this caused by?

What do you mean you're worried about squishing him?

He hides in between the pillows on my bed...so I'm worried about not knowing that he ran and hide again and sitting/laying on him

Just supervise him when he's out of his cage. You've just gotten him so he needs time to get used to his new home. Don't leave him out of his cage when you can't watch him if you're worried about him being hurt. Better safe than sorry. I'm sure he'll settle down after a while, but he's still scared in his new home.

It still sounds like he's just really scared to me. Just because your other budgie didn't act the same way doesn't mean anything. Every bird is different. Maybe someone will chime in with their opinion, though.

*SHE* (yes, I'm sure, a hen - not a male) is probably just very timid and scared. Try feeding her treats while she's out of the cage, or perhaps try providing her with a cardboard box with one side missing. Being a young bird it sould be safe to provide her something to hide in, but as she grows up and matures, you should not allow her to try hiding in anything as it may lead to nesting behaviors.

SHe just sounds like a scared bird. In time she will get used to you and her surroundings and probably become more independent, right now Im sure shes just unsure of whats around her so hiding makes her feel safe.

I agree with the others. She is frightened. You just need to give her some time to adjust and she will. Also if your not home or watching her she should not be out of the cage too many dangers, just my opinion if your scared your going to sit on her, just watch her. If my birds are out I have an extremely close eye on them.

When you approach her do it softly, no fast abrupt movement. This will scare her. Talk to her gently, they really do pick up on that kind of stuff.

That's great that your budgie trusts you enough to hide in your shirt instead of fleeing from you! :) Maybe you can get her a birdie tent to hide in.
