Destructive Chewing - how to selectively control?
I have a lovely pair of green cheeked conures. They have plenty of chew toys such as wood, plastic, rope etc. but they still chew items that they shouldn't.
Yes I know this is normal, but, is there any safe way of repelling them from chewing selected items? For example is there a flavour or scent that will stop them that we could rub on items that we want to remain 'chew free' - such as pepper? Perhaps you have some other method? Thanks, Scott |

You could try vinegar, it's harmless but I'm not sure if they would find it unappealing.
I don't think pepper would work as birds aren't affected by 'hot' foods like chilli. You could also perhaps try lemon juice? That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but I think you should try the above and see what happens, your sure to come across something they don't like the taste of!

I would try the bitter apple spray that has been mentioned. Also, if the birds are chewing something they shouldn't be I wouldn't allow them near the things they are chewing if you can help it. I know its tough, our birds can be prettttty sneaky!!!!
