I am getting some warming plates this winter. My house doesn't hold heat well, and my GCC was a chilly little peanut in the mornings last winter. I also have a half nekkid CAG. They aren't in the cage, so no danger there. I also heard some negatives about the heated perches, and my CAG has had enough foot issues. They are a little pricey...but what can you do? They can move away from the heat source if they want, or if you cover part of the cage near it, you can create a little 'warm hut' within their cage. I found them here...

I was wanting to get my birds soemthing to help keep them warm in the winter. I was about to purchase the heated perches until I saw this thread... what's bad with them?

What else do you suggest?

Rocky uses a heated perch and we have never had a problem with it. I purchased it from drfostersmith.com, it was $35.00. I have read some of the negatives of them, but it wasn't enough for me not to buy one, plus I read all the reviews of the one we have and no one ever had a problem. Rocky's stays on 24/7, it has never overheated, I do check it a couple times a day just to make sure and I talked about it with my vet and she didn't have any concerns. Plus Rocky loves it, he sits on it after every bath and before bedtime. He also has a happy hut in his cage, which he loves to, he sleeps in it all the time. You do have to watch though and make sure if they chew on it that there are not any loose strings or anything that they could tangle themselves in. Also with the perch, Rocky has never had any problems with his feet. We have had the perch for 6 months now.

Hi, my birds have had a heated pirch for several years and they love it as far as I can tell. It has never burned their feet or caused any problems. I don't think it even gets hot enough to burn them. Also, the pirch is progressively warmer from one end to the other, so they can move along it for the amount of heat they want. There are plenty of other pirches in their cage that they can move to if they find the heated one is too warm. I put the heated pirch as the highest one so they will want to sleep on it and they usually do.
