Bad amount of seed in poop.

Hello All! I am taking the female of the two new tiels that are in quarentine to the vet. Before she had a tiny bit of seed in her poop, and when the vet came to the house, she felt it was probably giardia.

Well yesterday and today the poop has gotten very serious. Any suggestions that I might give my vet would be helpful. Other than PDD, is there any tests we need to run? Anything other than giardia and PDD that could cause this much seed to be passed? I am looking at her poop and realizing that she could not be getting any nutrition from it. I have gotten her to eat a few pellets, but after 10 years of eating seed, change is not coming easy.

Anyone with any suggestions?

They are still in strict quarentine, stuff like this poping up is the whole reason for it!

The first picture is of the seed poop, the other is the normal picture of her mates poop. That is part of the reason why I think it might be a non-contaigous illness (maybe something wrong with her insides?) as his poop looks green, but otherwise normal.

You can try feeding her milk thistle extract, and looking for some herbal remedies to help her liver, and other organs... I don't know if it would be of much help but maybe...

It's always good to take them to the vet. My female tiel did this about ayear ago. They ran tests on her including Giardia and found nothing, I consulted an avian specialist and said that this sometimes happens in tiels, could just be an upset belly? Anyway, she had it for a couple of days and it went away and hasn't had it happen since. I'm only telling you because my first thought was PDD also and I was scared to death but the specialist made it sound to me that it's not all that uncommon. I would definitely keep working with your vet though just to be sure. I don't want to down play what is happening with her in the least bit but wanted to share my experience I had with the same thing. Hope she gets better! Leah
