rehome them

I think that in your present stage of life you will need to think what is BEST for them not yourself as ayoung adult you will need to make many hard decisions, one of the hallmarks of adulthood is to put anothers needs over our own selfish wants, what youWANTis to keep your birds, but what they NEED is a good stable home, which you have not been able to provide for many reasons,if you love and care for them do whats best for them,I have to commend you for writing and bieng so honest it took alot of courage esp since writing about the conditions to bird lovers you had to know what we would all say.so do the right thing for them and yourself good luck

I think it's a good idea to find them a home & get on with your life - as you are busy ( all of us who are older realise that this time of your life is a hectic one). I think it is very sad that the birds were neglected - however your honesty is commendable & you didn't make excuses. (& the distressed one did get help)

I think the lack of '1' caregiver is the real problem & I am more upset with your parents. I am the mom at our home & take the lion share of responsibility for pets & human care. Even when my son pet-sits, I make sure he hasn't forgotten & if he's away I do it - the pet doesn't have any options.

We all need to look at this one - especially those of us who love animals & want one. BUT do we realistically have the environment, time, money reserves, and education to take care of a pet? We are their 'parents' and as such are responsible for their well-being.

Although it has been an unpleasant & bad experience - they are usually the ones that we learn from the most. I'm sure you'll look back at this with some wisdom. As I've gotten older I have reflected on the stupid things I've done with a hefty dose of shame & true regret.

Good Luck to all the Birds.
