Tea Tree Oil for beaks??

Hi All

I've got a brownhead parrot here with what almost looks like some kind of beak rot. When he was taken in to have his beak done and get clipped they advised to put teatree oil on his beak once a day. Everything I can find says that's bad for them but I'm hoping to get a second opinion or alternate suggestions as to what should be done for the poor fellow.

thanks

I have always heard that tea tree oil is toxic for birds (I believe because of the fumes). Was it a certified avian vet who advised you to use the tea tree oil?

Tea Tree Oil is poisonous. You can use plain mineral oil.

I suggest taking your bird to an avian vet and see what treatment is recommended by the professional. I also have read not to use tea tree oil with parrots.

Agree on taking the bird to a vet, in the meantime you cold try almond or olive oil in moderation. Even if it doesn't help, at least it won't harm, something that can't be said about tea tree oil.

If it's beak rot no oil is going to fix it he needs a vet to properly diagnose. As far as beak oiling I like organic sunflower oil to shine them up once in a great while when they are really peeling.
