Thanks,
I also added some pellets since my conure and my tiel arent too fond of them. Maybe it will give them the nutrients from them without them even knowing it! I really hope they will like it ok. If not we'll have to try again. Well any other ingrediants that I can use will be greatly appreciated!Ashlie Nicole |

Re: adding pellets to birdie bread
My avian cert vet recently recommended I try ground up pellets softened with warm water, to get my macaw to try them. (She eats warm oatmeal from my fingers.) I think the idea of putting ground up pellets in a birdie bread mixture is a brilliant idea! I plan to try it myself. My baby likes all kinds of bread! And I like the idea of using something besides cornbread mix, too. Question: Is anyone else worried about the sodium in these mixes? I'm concerned about the sodium in the leavening and also whatever amount of salt they add to increase taste appeal for us humans. Any ideas about any of this? I suppose you could use whipped egg whites to make batter rise, like you do with souffle...But that's a lot of work, unless it's justified. Any ideas on this question? ~Alyce J. I know at our stores they have several low sodium mixes. Others state they are low sodium but these actually are if you check the nutrient label. They usually will have at least a small section with the other diet or health foods that are low in sodium and sugar for those watching their health but wanting something tasty!
We also mix in human baby food (again we check the ingredients) it is smooth and usually quite healthy if you get the right kinds and you can get almost any variety of flavor. We also mix in ground and whole pellets which finally enticed some of the birds who wouldn't eat them to start. You can mix almost anything into the birdie bread once they actually start eating it to get in more nutrition and variety especially the finer it is ground or pureed before mixing it in. You can even but a little bit of light -- low sodium peanut butter on top as a frosting if your bird doesn't show as much immediate interest. |
