'no Brainer' Birdy Bread

THIS ONE has PROBABLY been OVERDONE here, but it's EASY, FAST...and a "NO-BRAINER"

To one package of "Jiffy" Corn Bread Mix, add 1/3 c. of milk, and 2 eggs - blended - SHELL and ALL, and add about 1/2 c. SHELLED NO-SALT peanuts, 1/2 c. of your birds favorite "pellet" food (like Kaytee or Zupreem Fruit Blend), and an optional 1/2 c. of dried fruit (banana chips, dried papaya, etc.)...Fill muffin papers 1/3 full ONLY, and bake at 400 degrees about 15 minutes until done...Kona, our B & G LOVES 'EM !!!

I made my first batch of birdie bread last nite, this morning, one of em...but I steamed some boccoli, carrots, squash, cauliflower, and cooked some brown rice, and ran that all (but the rice) thru the chopper, and mixed it all in the mix and made mini muffins...made 3 dozen, freezing them. but before i stored them away, I had to try the finished product on the IRN...she was smacking her beak! ! ! i also boiled a couple of dried peppers with the rice and chopped it up too! she loved it

Bird bread is super-easy to make and a great way to get some good nutrition into picky eaters.

I also open a few fish oil capsules into the batter and mix it in well.

I'll say, my recipe keeps expanding to get the good stuff in there. Next time I am going to add fresh coconut and strained baby meat to up the fat and protein content.
Also, I have baked mine 2 ways, on a cookie sheet and mini muffins. I like the mini muffins, they're easy to store and serve.

I put the batter in a glass baking dish as if I was making cornbread or something similar.

I cook mine into mini muffins. I made some more today with fruits in it. And man, she is smacking that beak! The Parakeets, no luck yet. I take pieces of fresh fruit and veggis and thread onto a piece of wire and dangle in their cage for about 20 minutes, some days with pnutbutter some days with out. They peck it some.....better than not...

I cook mine in glass baking pans, too, and cut it into chunks after it cools. I keep out what I will use for a couple of days and freeze the rest.

The bread I made this morning:

1 package Hodson's Mills all-natural bran muffing mix
1 egg, include ground shell
1/2 c applesauce (unsweetened natural)
1/2 c grapenuts cereal
1 mashed bannana
1 grated carrot
1 tbs walnut oil
1 diced granny smith apple
a glorp of dark unsulphered mollasses (probably 2-3 tbs, but I didn't measure)
a sprinkling of Kaytee moulting and conditioning supplement

I put it into a glass baking dish in a 400F oven and baked for just under 20 minutes.

I wish I could tell you I have a profound reason for choosing this particular set of ingredients. Truth to tell, it is what I had. I picked up the muffin mix, looked around, sorted through the cupboards and fridge, looking for stuff that would be tasty and healthy.

They loved it. Especially with peanut butter...

My husband's buddy is coming over this afternoon - it has been made clear to me that I MUST immediately show him the pan of cooling bread, and point out that it is FOR THE BIRDS before he avails himself to it. He probably would NOT appreciate the eggshells, but I'm sure the moulting supplement would make his feathers nicely shiney.

I made my first batch of Birdie Bread today...and Izzy went to town! I used the Jiffy corn muffin mix, eggs (w/ shells), ground peanuts, 1/2 cup of Zupreem Avian maintainence Rainbow pellets (which she normally won't even go near!!), milk, and 1/2 cup of mixed dried bananas, apricots, and pineapples, and mangos................Very easy and she seems to love them!! Thanks for the recipe!

questions about ingredients & alternatives....

Don’ts?
On one of the threads I read that Milk (what about the cheese??), Honey & Raisins (R. because of the drying process??) were not good for birds.....It would be nice to have that confirmed &/or added to.
Oils?
Are all oils OK ? - I use Grape seed oil, Olive oil, or margarine (non-hydrogenated).
Sugars?
I don't think animals need sugars (like we think we do) and get most of them from fruit. Molasses i can understand - it has lots of good stuff in it.
When I bake I use Apple Juice or fruit juice in place of the milk & it works out fine.
Flours?
I still use a little (no more than ¼) White Wheat flour & I use Spelt – whole & white, & Brown Rice Flour & of course Rolled Oats. If you cook with Oats - I recommend soaking the oats in the wet ingredients, while getting the rest ready - they make the batter stickier that way (add more later, for crunch).
What about sprouted grains? Or just adding husked seeds to the mix, like red river cereal? I haven't used corn meal.....

Thanks for any help
