What to do?

Hi,
I am owner if three budgies. I have no problems with veggies but making them eat fruits make me headache. I usually cut the apples into small tiny cubes but after a while, all the cubes can be found on the floor. Should I just cut half the apple and put it in their cage? Also, can carrots be done in the same way??

Feeding fruits is not a necessity, but you can try making a fruit smoothie, or even a fruit salad, or a fruit and veggie smoothie... Making a salad with some fruit in it... Adding some fresh squeezed fruit juice (such as that from an orange) to their water for a couple of hours...

A food processor is a wonderful thing!

You can use chunks of carrot and apple on a skewer some will like chewing on them that way. You can also try making a salad using both veggies and some fruit mixed together. Have you tried many varieties of fruit? Some seem to like mango better or papaya. We have one that just loves pears. Fruit should only make up a small portion of their diet maybe 10-15% so if they won't accept any fruit I wouldn't worry as much about it. You could also try some of the dried fruit (make sure it is dried/dehydrated naturally not with lots of chemicals). Some birds seem to enjoy the more rubbery or crunchy textures of the dried fruits. I believe it was Nancy (sorry if I'm wrong I didn't look back to check the correct name) that put on a recipe using a microwaved sweet potato with some cinnamon and orange juice mashed together that a lot of birds seem to love.

I have found that my budgies only eat fruits and veggies that I push into the cage bars. I don't know why, but they will not touch it in a bowl or chopped up, I guess they like to destroy it themselves.

Yeah, I was too going to recommend making a carrot and apple kabob. Granny Smith apples, I've notice that more birds prefer them over the others. My fids will eat any apple so I have no problem there. Anyways, you can cut the apple (remove the seeds) and carrot into four and slide them onto a birdy skewer to hang in the cage as a healthy toy/treat.

I had trouble getting any of my birds(tiel, lovebirds and parakeet) to eat any fresh veggies or fruit. I finally discovered my birds love eggs, either hard boiled or scrambled. SO, my mom got me a small food processor for Christmas and I chop up veggies and fruit in it, add an egg and scramble in the microwave for an egg omlet...they ALL go absolutely nuts over it for breakfast!!!
