My first Birdie Bread!

I fixed my first batch of "birdie bread" yesterday. I used Jiffy corn bread mix, added eggs, cooked sweet potato, exact pellets, vegetable stew baby food, and mixed veggies. I thought it would turn out horrible but it turned out pretty good and all my birds liked it except for the one who I really fixed it for. I can't get my Amazon to eat anything but seed so I figured she would go for this, nope. Oh well, I'll keep trying. I have to figure out someway to get some veggies into this girl. Any ideas on making them look like seed?

Heh! I just did my first batch the other day, just about the same "recipe" as yours. My Green Cheek loves it. I cut it into little squares and froze them, since there's enough there to last her about a month!

Wish I had some advice for your reluctant Amazon. Hmm....does she like fruit? Maybe mix up a batch with some apple sauce or fruit juice??

My demon likes veggie pasta, cooked...not sure of how much veggies they actually have. But she likes them. But my birdie bread, one batch as the frozen berry mix of blue/straw/black berries drained well and mixed in the batter. Then another batch has the veggie mix of corn, carrots, sweet tater, and green beans cooked and chopped in a blender. She eats both very well. Then she started picking the veggies out, so I would divide the batter up, and add a jar of babyfood veggie style in to each part. One carrot, one green bean, one squash. She eats em now. Also, boil an ear of corn, let it cool, then cut it into disk. They can pick it up and play or eat...She loves this...I take sprinkle cinnamon on sweet taters for her and she loves it.

It's not like she doesn't like the taste of the bread. She won't even try it! She just picks it up and slings it out of the bowl. I don't think she has ever had anything but seeds to eat (she is a rescue) and she doesn't recognize anything else as food. She won't even try corn All my birds like corn, even my finicky cockatiels. I just keep offering it to her every day and she keeps throwing it to the bottom of the cage.

maybe make a batch only for your Zon with a lot of nuts/seeds so it's a challenge to get the good stuff [her favs] out of the 'good stuff' [birdy bread] I often embellish cakes with a layer of nuts pressed into the top before baking.
I like the idea of at least pretending to eat the bread yourself - could you take her to another place & kind of have a picnic together - a little one on one?

when i was a kid, I remember eating a lot of lettuce when I had a guinea pig
I'm sure she'll come around if you keep trying. Don't give up - at least everyone else liked it!

Good news! After giving Baby my "special" Birdie Bread almost everyday, she finally tried it today! She likes it! It just took her a while to try it. Now I'm going to have to think up some new things to put in there.

Or hook it to the the side of her cage, like, jam it into the bars so she will have to rip it apart to get it off, and when she goes to take it off, she might get a taste of it, and realize "Woah!! This stuff is good!"
