Sweet Potato Balls

1 large sweet potato, baked until soft
1/2 cup raisins
1 mashed banana
1 cup mixed fresh or frozen mixed vegetables
1 cup diced apples
1 1/2 cup uncooked oatmeal, corn flakes or granola cereal.

Mix together adding a little fruit juice and roll into balls. You can freeze these and defrost whenever.
I thought this sounded yummy!

My IRN loves this. I couldn't find any large sweet potato's so I used two medium size and two bananas instead, plus about 1/4 to 1/2 extra oatmeal. Instead of rolling these into balls, I scooped this mixture into ice cube trays, placed in freezer and when frozen, I popped them out into freezer bags and placed back into the freezer for future use. I just thawed one out this morning in my microwave and it only took about 30 seconds. Tiki just gobbles them up! I also gave some to my cockatiels and they were eating it too.

Great recipe but please do one extra step. Raisins are normally dried with sulphur. Please place them in a cup of water in the microwave and cook for 1 minute or until boiling. Remove the water and rinse the raisins off very well. Now you can safely add them back to your recipe.

this is an awesome recipe. patty and fluff love it. thanks for the safety tip nancy....i didn't realise this and i thought they were only bad because of the sugar content and lack of real nutrients.

I just made it too. I have no idea why but I added brown rice to it. Its not on the recipe. Somewhere in my demented mind I thought they were supposed to be there.

Hmm after this batch of birdy bread is gone, I will try this recipe too.

Is there anything wrong with Microwaving the potato? It's alot quicker then baking in the oven. And with summer coming, I would like to use the microwave more, So we don't roast when I cook for Gypsy.

this was funny. I gave all three of the fids a bit of the Sweet Potato Balls this morning. It was something new. Benji stayed on the far side of his cage from his bowl for about 10 minutes. Then he snuck over and tasted it. Scarfed it up.
Sophie looked in her bowl. Looked at me, then her bowl, then me. Next time I saw her head it was orange. Lil Miss Zoey actually snubbed me when she looked in her bowl and something was differant. I tried to coax her but no good. Untill I put a grape on it she would have starved herself I think. Is she spoiled or what? lol
