birdie wont eat his veggies

all my budgie will eat is plain old seed. nothing else!!! he is terrified of anything else i put in his food dish he'll eat on the opposite side and just pick the seeds out and i try leaving his seeds out of the cage with just his greens but he won't tuch them. he'd starve his self before he'd tuch any of it!

what can i do to get him to eat new things!! the only thing i've ever seen him eat is an orange flavored seed stick on the side of his cage when i went out of town and the little girl never refilled his food dish!!

Be patient and persistant, oh and imaginitive too! Try hanging the food, putting it on a skewer (like a kebab?), weaving through cage bars, slicing it, dicing it, etc. If need be, put the fresh food in a dish and sprinkle a SMALL amount of seeds into the mix.

Try a smaller version (cut recipe into 1/4 if not smaller before making) of the kitchen sink recipe (http://birdboard.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3896), or any number of other recipes posted in the recipe section.

Cook up some cornbread with mixed diced veggies in the bread! Just keep trying and don't give up!

I agree with Monica with the cornbread; I make corn muffins for my birds, and they love it. I sneak in crushed pellets and grated veggies. Try different recipes, flavors and textures. Some birds can be really picky.
I had the exact same problem with my budgie. He rarely picks at veggies, and it's taken me about a year to get him on pellets. Some pellets are pretty hard. We started buying conversion pellets, and crush them up to be smaller. We've progressed enough that we now give Charlie a 50/50 seed and pellet mix. He also gets bird greens (they're prepared very small, I think Kaytee makes them), which he seems to like.
Also try eating the veggies or fruit in front of him.

try fruit

I had to trick Valo into eating his veggies by pretending they're the best treat he can get.... now, he's better in eating his veggies (if he feels like it of course and finds the served meal appealing.... spoiled bird).
One thing that I found helpful in getting them to try veggies and other food - offer him a small piece of apple... all the birds I've had so far loved apple, and Valo would do anything for a small slice of (sweet) apple. If your bird likes it, you can try to feed him other fruit (sometimes easier to start with since the birds generally like the sweet taste, but feed in limitations) and veggies... start with the colorful veggies first try carrot (nice and orange), red bell pepper and the add some broccoli etc
The broccoli can also be a great toy if given in a larger piece.... Valo can spend hours (well, it's really more like minutes) tearing that thing apart and spreading the pieces all over my place.

Good luck
