tomatoes?

Does anyone feed their birds tomatoes? Are they safe?

I ask b/c my bird (Senegal) will eat anything on a skewer, and little cherry tomatoes just beg to be skewered. If they are safe, I think he'd like them,
b/c he loves cantelope melon (partly because it's orange, and it is mushy and it is sweet) and the vet suggested I cut back on so much fruit (to avoid yeast problems). Anyway, I think cherry tomatoes on a skewer may be a good substitute.....

tomatoes are fine for your bird. My girl loves cherry tomatoes! Sometimes I'll just put a whole beefsteak tomato in her bowl and watch her demolish it.

Our avian vet had told us they were fine in moderation but are quite acidic and can sometimes cause yeast problems as well. We usually let ours have tomatoes if we are eating them but don't put them in their usual birdie salad or main foods.

Somewhere or other I had gotten the idea that tomatoes weren't a good idea. If they are ok, that would be great!

That's what we were told by our AV also.Because of the acid, just a small piece now & then.

I have never heard that tomatoes were bad. I have offered them to Ollie, but she doesn't really care for them. Seems the list of things we shouldn't give our fids is growing... With the exception of the really bad stuff (ie chocolate, avocadoes, alcohol) I just feed in moderation!

Perhaps one of the reasons you might have heard they are bad is because they are often heavily sprayed, if you have any doubts go organic. My CAG loves cherry tomatoes.
