We ordered some from a link someone posted (can't remember who posted it) from Tropical Traditions. I don't see any yellow spots in ours - but I don't have much experience with it since this is the first time we've gotten any.

I just bought the same stuff from Whole Foods. IMHO, I think it's fine. In fact, Bela will actually eat this one. The stuff I bought from Drs Foster and Smith she wont touch anymore. If you warm a little bit of the oil (Whole Foods) carefully in a glass dish, you'll see it all melts. Bela's feathers look magnificent again!

cool. I am paranoid b/c Poo is getting over an infection, so I wanted to be sure I wasn't introducing more germs to him! I had a conversation in my head about whether or not it made sense for something to be wrong with _all_ of the jars, but you never know--I imagine not a lot of people use solid oil in cooking these days!

believe me, I had concerns as well. It didn't seem all too 'sanitary' seeing there's no protective seal. that and the fact they say refrigerating isn't necessary, had me concerned. I still put it in the fridge and use a clean spoon each time I take some out of the jar. I haven't had a problem yet, but will post if something changes. I read somewhere on this board (i think) someone who scrambled eggs with it. I tried it and it works well.
