recipes

Does anyone have any other recipes? I am starting to sell birds now and I want to print up some recipes to send with the babies. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
Becky

Re: recipes

I have found that cooking some beans, brown rice and assorted veggies together, then freezing it in ice cube trays makes a good dinner. I try to vary the veggies, sweet potatoes, green beans, carrots, broccoli, and chili peppers are always a good choice. I use what is in season.

Peanut enjoys this and all the variations.

Re: recipes

Hi Becky,

I enjoy baking every once in a while and freezing what I make.* The birdie bread and aviancakes are my favorites.* I think JB had posted some recipes.* I'll check and if they aren't there I'll find the ones I use and post them.*

I personally like the quick and easy kind of things to make.*What I've found for quick treats that my birds llike is

I toast a piece of wheat bread and then I spread alittle peanut butter and apple sauce on it.* I take a pipe cleaner and put it around the piece of bread and then attach it to the top of their cage and let them out and let them nibble away at it.* I've also used eggo waffles and even once a half of a bagel.

Like I've said rasin bran is a big hit with them.* I don't like the sugar content so I have bought some organic bran flakes and add some rasins to it, they love muching away at it.

The latest thing I've found they love is oats.* They can't seem to get enough of them.* I use them to introduce new foods with.* It helps to get them over to the plate real fast.* A
couple of nights ago I found that they love it when I chop up a hard boiled egg and sprinkle* oats on it.* I leave the shell on it when I cut it up and make sure it's broken up so they can snack on that too.* You don't need alot, I have three cockatiels and I only use half a hard boiled egg with a little oats.

Also make sure they know that whatever you have for dinner to include that in the tiel's diet to (as long as it's healthy, but friday night they love when they get the pizza crusts.)*

Brown rice and tuna fish are some more favorites.* They still haven't gotten into the veggies too much but I haven't tried it with oats yet.* I've only tried cooked veggies and next time I go to the grocery store I am going to pick up some shredded carrots.

My kids love making up treats for them.* I bought a pack of pipe cleaners and what they do is string cheerios and beads onto the pipecleaners.* Then they smear a bit of peanut butter onto the cheerios and dip it into the seeds.* They gobble this up in a day.* You can also do this with all sorts of foods: popcorrn, veggies, grapes, etc.* The only limitation is your imagination.

Another fun thing my kids like to do when we have spaghetti is to take a piece of cooked spagetti and give them it.* They love playing with it and end up getting all tangled up in it.

From the begining I tried introducing them to new foods and it wasn't until I switched them over to 50 percent pellets and 50 percent seeds did they start showing an interest in any type of food.* It's probably because they were chowing down and stuffing themselves with the seeds and didn't have any room for the other foods.* I am still working on cutting down the seed, I think a mixture of 80 percent pellet and 20 percent seed is good.* I've been doing it gradually so they don't go on a hunger strike.

I hope this helps.* I do have a cookie recipe that I have to find. I haven't made it up yet but it sounds like fun. I'll post it as soon as I can find it again.
