Birdie Pancakes

I haven't tried this yet but my aunt says her tiel and canary love it. She takes an egg, baby food, organic applesauce, pellets, pumpkin, veggies and whatever else she has and mixes them in a bowl. Then she adds enough flour to make it into a pancake batter and cooks it. He tiel actually sits at his food dish and waits for her to make some before he will eat his pellets. Like I said, I haven't tried it but it seems like a good way to make pancakes without the sugar from the boxed stuff.

you could also do half flour (whole wheat) and have rolled oats

Could you also use cornmeal instead of the rolled oats?

particular about it being organic, unbleached and/or whole wheat...etc
or is there something else behind that?
just want to be sure

we buy king arthur unbleached or bulk from the market
and i use about half cup in all the breads and doggie kibbles
i also add 1/4 tsp baking soda and been wondering about it (too much? omit?)

this is a good foundation recipe
and a good time to sneak in nutrients that may get passed over

one of my fav recipes "to share" is using bisquick adding chopped apple, chopped walnut and vanilla yogurt to make pancakes. We all love them!

My husband likes making blueberry pancakes and we share them as well.

As long as you aren't doing it every week, it is fine.

Quinoa is lower in fat than wheat flour and packed with lots of nutrition. you would likely need to use half flour, half quinoa or xanthan gum to hold the quinoa together as it has no gluten to make things like pancakes stick together. Oh, also garbanzo or fava bean flours are a good way to get protien into them and have lots of vitamins too. I use it a lot for making chocolate chip cookies, cakes, and breads. the same rule applies with using xanthan gum.

Here are some of my garbanzo cookies. No one would ever know...

My birds go gaga for pancakes. I don't make them often but they love them.
Anna- Would you mind sharing the recipe for those cookies? I can't eat regular ones because of the sugar and oil. Thanks!!!
