Papaya Question

I've never given fresh papaya to my birds, and I bought some today. So, do I just cut it up and give it to them, or do I have to skin it etc. Thank you!
Tina

i leave the skin on when i give it to my parrots. they know how to eat the fruit and leave the skin. but, i do have to skin sweetpea's (hornbill) papaya cause she swallows her chunks whole, so she gets skinless chunks of papaya :)

papaya question

I am not a certified avian vet. But I have spoken with several for the past 5 years. They have answered my questions about bird food. They all told me not to feed any bird papaya. I suggest you check with your bird vet, prior to feeding your bird(s) papaya. Have a great day!

why should you not feed any bird papaya? papaya is one of the major parts of my hornbill's diet, and some of the parrots like it too. papaya is one of the native fruits in central and south america, dont you think the wild parrots eat it too?

Every vet I've talked with and every website I visit indicates that papaya is a good addition to a bird's diet. Why did your vets tell you otherwise?

In alot of bird mixes they have dried papaya in them. I just had never given them the fresh papaya, so I was not sure how to prepare it for them. I am shocked an avian vet would say birds cannot have papaya. I know they can never have avocado. They all loved it, it isn't their staple diet, just a treat. And they are all quite alive and well!!!!
