Taste?

Is it true that birds can not taste a whole deal of stuff?

I read an article sometime ago that said birds only have 100 or so taste buds whilst humans have 9000+.

Our AV said that we could give Sydney (tiel) hot jalapeno peppers and the heat would not bother him because he doesn't have the receptors.

Birds don't have a lot of saliva in their mouths, which is why hot peppers are not hot... And indeed, they do have less taste buds... thus, making them more picky about foods...

yeah i've realized that a lot of my grey's pellets and stuff do not have any flavour in them

we still give him formula to maintain his weight since when he came to us he had weight and toe health issues

after handfeeding i'd give him a kiss and it tastes really really boring and bland

what i wonder is
i wonder what kidn of taste buds they have most of

like sweet,saltly,sour,bitter?
