Grits?

I was wondering of birds can eat grits- like the homemade kind?

Yes they can, grits are from the corn family, so it's a vegetable high in protein. You'll want to limit it like any other protein only occasionally. Like polenta, same idea.

And don't make them Southern style with the butter, only water. Maybe stir in some high vitamin A liquid like baby food sweet potatoes or apricot or carrots. Even liquid from greens if you make them without the meat and onion just plain greens. Sounds tasty!

If you have a finicky bird that doesn't like trying new things, sprinkle a bit of nutmeg and cinnamon on the grits.... An underweight bird sometimes needs tempting.
