I'm so glad to find this thread!
I'm constantly battling with fussy, finicky birds that don't want to eat the things I prepare for them.
They don't like their pellets, they don't like their veggies.
My only recourse is to let them become hungry enough to eat whether they like it or not.
I have a recipe. I feed them sweet potato muffins from a recipe I got in Williamsburg, VA from Christiana Campbell's Tavern:
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnimon
1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1/2 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter softened
1/2 cup sugar (I leave this out.)
2 large eggs
1 cup mashed cooked sweet potatoes
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup raisins
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Farenheit and butter 24 mini-muffin cups.
In large bowl, sift the flour with the baking powder salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.
In seperate bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, sweet potatoes and milk. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix just u ntil blended. Stir in the nuts and raisons. Fill the muffin cups two thirds full and bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Turn out onto wire racks and cool.
