Fun birdie bread

One of my friends made up a batch of birdie bread just for my U2 Tyler and she loves it. With regular birdie bread it crumbles everywhere when she picks it up and she loses half at the bottom of her cage.

They got the little sample cones and filled them with birdie bread. She put the cones three to a muffin tin and cooked them unitl a straw inserted in one cone came out clean. Tyler loved the results. Don't tell Tyler but the bread is just stock full of things that are good for her. Only problem is if you don't freeze or feed right away the cone gets soggy. Luckily Tyler likes it frozen as well as warm. Getting a picky U2 to eat properly can be hard.

I'll have to give that one a try. Rico used to love his birdie bread but he just stopped eating it. Maybe it will work again if I stick it in the cones. Thanks for the tip!

Tyler had stopped eating my birdie bread. She seems to go through phases where she loves something then won't touch it. I found out the difference between my friends bread and mine is she uses OJ as the liquid in the mix and she also uses a cooked cherry mash that she makes for her cockatiels. Basically her bread is fruity instead of cornbread tasting like mine is. Maybe a bit more sugar in her bread with the OJ but Tyler is eating it and needs all the calories she can get. She has always been on thin side. My friend also makes Tyler little mini muffins that are a perfect cockatoo size. She only has four tiels and yet thinks up all these ideas to feed my Too LOL. She gets a thrill out of seeing Tyler eat and enjoy the food she cooks.

We find the cones in our local grocery store, Publix. Ask the manager of your local store if they carry them or can order some.

I live on the West Coast of Florida just south of Tampa. I love Publix. I won't grocery shop anywhere else but Sam's Club and that is only for bulk items

Birdie Bread

Do you guys think that my budgies would eat that birdie bread. My Budgies are such picky eaters, and it is so frustrating. Right now I just put mixed veggies in there cage every day, but most of it ends up on the bottom of the cage. They mostly just like the peas. I had to trick them into eating that though. I just sprinkled seeds over the top of their food to get them to at least be interested in it. Does anyone have any good recipes that they think would work for my birds?

My budgies wouldn't eat anything but seed until I gave them scrambled eggs with organic applesauce. I made them plain, in the microwave with no butter or milk and then mushed them into little pieces. Then I sprinkled some of their seed on top, and mixed a little seed in so they had to pick through to get to the seed. They ate the seed off the top but then decided that the eggs were better. Now I give them eggs a couple times a week with different organic baby food veggies in it and they eat it as long as it has applesauce in it too. I still try and get them to eat fresh stuff, and they still won't, but they will at least take a bite of it now. And I thought my tiels were going to be the difficult ones....Oh, and I made birdie bread for them...won't touch it.
