Thumbs up Pancakes for the birds

Yep, another recipe, lol. Now that I have Monty and Cassie who are being very stubborn about their veggies and my other birds who aren't too big on veggies either I have been trying all sorts of things to get their veggies into them I made pancakes today and since they always want what I have I figured I would make a sugar free, salt free, birdy version and they loved them!
I actually found a recipe for humans online and just modified it a bit.

2 eggs
1/2 c cottage cheese (I didn't use this, I used carrot, kale and applesauce)
1 Tbsp. oil (I used red palm oil)
1 c + 2 Tbsp. uncooked oatmeal or 1/2 oatmeal and 1/2 wheat germ (I used oatmeal)
any friuts and veggies you want to add

Put everything into the food processor or blender for a few seconds. Chop the veggies first though. You can add cinnamon or any other spice you would like also. Then place in small amounts into a hot pan and cook just like regular pancakes. They will stick so I sprayed the pan with cooking spray first. I made them about quarter size so everyone could have their own and only made half the recipe. I froze the leftovers but I will have to see how well they freeze. Next I'm going to try blueberries and cranberries!

That sounds delicious!

I salute you for making bird friendly food for yourself, I probably would have just used to cottage cheese! But your mixture is so much healthier! How did it taste?

That is such a great idea!! I really need to get in the kitchen and cook for my fidlets instead of just the pasta, rice, and stuff that I normally make them. I have a recipe for birdie bread but I'm afraid I'll screw it up LMAO

Great idea! I love to cook for Chipper. Halo, don't be afraid to mess up. Unless it is really burned, they will eat it! At least it will give them something new to try. Chipper loves to see new food to try.

Oh, I made pancakes from a boxed mix for myself. I did try a little bit (that's the ONLY way Monty would touch them) and they weren't too bad really but kind of bland (the recipe called for salt and artifical sweetner). The applesauce and carrot tasted really good together, the kale not so much but they didn't seem to care. I was really surprised they even ate it cuz they HATE oatmeal (unless it's oatmeal rasin cookies, lol)
I always try to come up with a fid friendly way to make things because they always want what I'm eating. I know it's ok on occasion but if I were to give them a little bit of what I'm having every day that would not be good. This way we can all eat the "same" thing together and they get their veggies! I even came up with fid friendly "sugar" cookies last Christmas.
I have tried 4 different birdie bread recipes and I haven't been able to get them to eat a single one so I gave up.
This is the only way I can really get a lot of the veggies into them. They will eat a few things fresh but not many. I always offer whatever veggies are in the cooked food fresh as well so they don't get wise to my plan....

LOL I love how you say that, 'so they don't get wise to my plan'. I love that recipie and we'll try it here soon. Jannabell adores Harrisons birdie bread mix but not the ones momma has made her (probably because I left out the sugar thinking she didn't need it. what was I thinking?).

WHAT? No sugar!!! How dare you! LOL. That's about what my birds think too. They love my Grandma's homemade wheat bread but birdie bread is a big no. I haven't tried Harrison's yet mainly cuz they haven't eaten what I've made but I might have to give it a try.
I'm serious, I'm scared they will figure out I'm hiding good stuff in their food and stop eating it, lol. I was so surprised that I didn't find a million little pieces of kale on the bottom of the cage today, just a few in the empty food dish. (Although after tasting kale I don't blame them for not eating it...)
