Making own bird food??

can anyone give me any ingredients they put into their homemade bird food?
buying bird food every time i run out is pretty expensive. and buying all the ingredients seem to be much less expensive.
I have 2 sun conures btw.
I have already gotten a few things.
But I feel they need more of a variety.
Any recipes/ideas???

Thanks

I personally would not give that to a sun conure. That is way too much sugar for a sun conure

Are you looking for a dry food/seed mix or a soft, cooked food recipe? I buy my dry mix, but I make the soft, cooked mix. Also, I have an Eclectus, not a Sun Conure, so if Conures have specific dietary requirements, they will need to be taken into consideration.

For my soft food mix:
1 lb 15 bean soup mix (do NOT use the seasoning packet)
1 lb organic brown rice/brown rice pasta
1 lb frozen peas
1 lb frozen chopped broccoli
1 lb frozen ocra
1 lb frozen corn
1 lb chopped baby carrots
1/4 cup flax seed

In a large pot, cover the beans with a few inches of cold water. Bring to a boil on the stove, and simmer for approx. 30 min.
In another pot, cook the pasta/rice as directed. (I usually stop mine when it's not quite done.)
Drain the beans and the rice/pasta.
In a LARGE container (I use a large stew pot), combine the beans, rice/pasta, and all the frozen veggies. (The veggies do not need to be cooked first. Just add them in frozen.) Stir it all up and divide into small containers/Zip-lock bags. I use the rectangle
Gladware containers that are about 3in X 5in and about 3in deep. Each container is about 4-7 days worth of meals (for an Eclectus). A batch this size will last me almost 2 months. Put one container in the fridge and all the rest in the freezer. I warm up each meal in the microwave for about 20 sec just to take the chill off and serve. My Ekkie loves it, it's easy to make the batch and easy to serve each portion, and it's good for him.

If hope this is the kind of recipe you were looking for. If not, I apologize. lol You can google parrot recipes or bird food recipes or something similar. There are lots of places on the web with different ideas.

Yes, I also do not suggest you feed your sun conure the recipe suitable for primary fruit-eaters like lories etc.

Whatever you choose, make sure you have some greens (kale, dandelion, beet greens etc) and veggies in there as those are most important.

I do not have a recipe to provide because I always make my food different every morning. Just any safe, healthy veggie/fruit and greens, grains, and sprouts will do just fine.

MusicalFeathers is right. I should clarify. In addition to the soft food mix (which I offer once or twice a day), I also offer fresh veggies and fruit once a day...dark leafy greens, raw carrots, butternut squash, sprouts, apple, grape, etc. Not only does that help to cover all the bases of nutrition, but it gives him some variety too, so he's not always eating the same thing at every meal. :)

Just keep trying. Try different combos, try serving different sized foods etc. You may figure out what the like and how they like it in the process. Don't give up though. Some birds are simply stubborn (not that I'm saying yours are) and persistence is key.

One way that helps get a bird to eat veggies is to bake them into a healthy birdie bread. I do not have a recipe on hand but there are a bunch of recipes on this board.
