If you want to feed what I think is the best diet, join Feeding Feathers Yahoo forum and look in their files section for several articles on Shauna's Mash diet. The diet is a combination of grains and legumes (for complete protein), lots of fresh vegetables, a little fruit, natural supplements and seeds and nuts. The large Macaws need higher protein and fat than many other parrot species, and on top of a good basic diet, daily nuts are recommended for good, healthy fats and extra protein.
If you don't have time or inclination to put this diet together (actually it takes very little time once you have the rhythm down), I would recommend a good, natural colored pellet such as Harrison's High Potency (necessary for Macaws) plus at minimum 20% fresh food, vegetables and a little fruit.
