My Biggest Baby

This is Baylor my biggest baby. He's 14 years old and came to me with barely walking due to hoof neglect.I have an awesome farrier who was able to get him sound in 18 months.Bay is so well behaved anyone can ride him.You can't tell by the picture, but he's huge, 16 hands!

Thanks T.W. he cost less than either of my conures. Some horses are going for less than 200 US dollars right now due to feed shortages. The upkeep expenses are what costs so much.I'm fortunate to have my own land so I don't have to pay board. There are many horses being turned loose on open land out west because the owners can't afford feed.

16 hands! Oh my, I think my 15.2 is tall enough.

Yes, the horse market is zero for a seller. There was just a 9 month old colt that was rescued in my area of the country that was rescued at -30 because the people could no longer feed him. It is sad but the poor thing did not make it.
Duluth News Tribune

I do agree with 4hand, the least expensive part of owning a horse is the purchase price. The rest is all in feed, tack, farrier, vetting etc. Birds are nothing compared to large animals.

Aportinen, that story is heartbreaking.Bay is an easy keeper, but still it only takes 4 to 6 flakes of grass hay [depends on temperature outside] per day to keep him in good flesh. That little Windchill must have been getting next to nothing for a long time to be in that condition.
As for Baylor's size,I need a mounting block to get on!

I am lazy, I feed round bales all winter. I do not ride in the winter due to a serious accident I had 7 years ago so I let me TWH get all the hay she wants! She is a very easy keeper, never collics (knock on wood!)

I am SO ready for this cold to stop and start working with her again. This morning we had -27 below! I am READY FOR SPRING!!!!!

It's a balmy 9 above here. 27 below!?!?! I'll quit my complaining!I always say, we have four seasons here....Swat flies, rake leaves, shovel snow, and mud.I usually ride bareback in winter to stay warm.I'd love to see a picture of your Tenassee Walking Horse.
