Beautiful horses Corralup! It's hard to imagine someone could be so envious of simple dirt, isn't it?

So sorry to hear that story, and the following one corralup! I was a horse welfare officer for the BHS in the UK for a couple of years and I can't tell you how many sickos there are out there! A guy who got nicknamed the 'Horse Ripper' appeared on my beat and it was the most horrendous time of my life. If you need to know more just Google it as it isn't the sort of thing I would want to share on a public forum. It was in Hampshire, UK in the early '90's. He was the worst but there were many more. Sadly horses seem to be a target for this sort of thing. Sometimes it's related to their owners, mostly not.

My advice to all owners is to take sensible precautions but horses cannot be kept in a bubble. They need to have freedom. If the risk seems real then make it supervised freedom for a while. Enjoy your horses and try not to worry too much, the chances of your animal being a victim is tiny unless you have a palpable reason to be concerned like corralup has. Makes me sick to think that this sort of thing is still going on. You have my heartfelt sympathy and empathy! <hugs>

All the best,

Heather

I completely agree with you on that! My mom and i worked at Woodbine race track and it was hard to get out to see our horse alot but we trusted the lady we boarded Ice (my retired thoroughbred) with but when we went to see him he didn't have the sparkle in his eyes that he used to he was wearing his winter blanket still (it wasn't cold that day), hardly any poop in his stall. I opened his stall and went in... lifted his blanket... he was skin and bones! even the racing thoroughbreds had more meat on them! he had a HUGE gut on him and the lady said oh he is looking so good look how fat he is my mom said actually he looks like SH!T and thats not a hay belly! have you been feeding him the food i provided and his oil?! she said no well why the heck wouldn't you feed him what we provided?! We moved him to my moms best friends house and a exactly a week later he died the lady starved him to death and when we introduced food to him he colliced and we couldn't stop it he was only 11 he didn't deserve that! When my moms friend called to tell us he wont make it we rushed to get to him in time but it was too late the vet had to put him down when we went to see him he had a mouth full of grass and was still warm... we laid down with him and hugged him and just sobbed. I'm full of tears now even and that was just over a year ago
The things you find out after you remove your horse from a barn can be horrifying! She put down 5 of her own horses in one year! one died from mud fever! that is a CURABLE RASH! why couldnt she fix that?!?!?!!?!? she put down another horse that had surgery on his nose why? because she couldn't be bothered to hook up the intervenes! my gawd sorry for my ran but I'm so sick of ASSH*LES having the power to end a life that should have been cherished!

End of rant sorry!
