Sizzle's surgery

Sizzle had surgery this morning to fix an umbilical hernia that didn't resolve on it's own. I loaded her up last night (her first trailer experience) and hauled her to the vet for her surgery first thing this morning.
Doc called about 9:45 to let me know Siz's surgery went perfectly, and her anesthesia and recovery all went well! WHEW! I was a nervous wreck let me tell ya!!
I decided to leave her there to recover until next Friday, rather than bring her home and stall her here b/c I just don't want her getting goofy when she can hear all the other horses and not see them or get to them. Doc said that would be fine, and I will be going down often to visit her while she's there.
Anyway, all went well and Siz should be coming home in a week! YAY!

I'm glad everything went well. I hear that these guys have a rough time coming out of anesthesia. You must be grateful that that part of the recovery is behind you. Keep us posted on Sizzle's progress.

...and we complain about the cost of a trip to the avian vet.

Yeah, I've known horses to thrash so violently coming out of anesthesia that they've broken legs, necks, hips.....It's scary! I was so happy to hear that she did well and was up eating hay when Doc called. I've never had to have surgery done on a horse before. Never want to again, that's for sure. My nerves couldn't take it! LOL!
Thank you for the well wishes, Tom. I'll be sure to update my post when Siz comes home!

I went to visit Siz first thing this morning. She was up and eating hay, and when she saw Russ and me, she gave a very happy, very LOUD, nicker and came up to the stall door. I went in and loved on her for a half hour or so. She's doing so well, and you'd never know she'd had surgery if it weren't for the shaved area on her neck where they had the I.V. in...and of course the surgery site on the bottom side of her belly, but you have to bend down and lean under her to see it! LOL!
It's weird not to have her at home, but I want to keep her at the vet's until I know she's healed enough to come home. I just can't take the chance of something happening!
Yeah, I love her!

I love Sizzle too. I'm glad she is on the road to recovery. She is such a sweet looking little horse.

Thanks Tom. I'll post some pictures of her when she comes home. At this rate, I may just have to keep her b/c I'm becoming really attatched to her! I'd planned on training her and selling her to a show home in the next year or so, but now, I just don't know if I can part with her.......

I'm glad she's ok. It's scary when they have to have surgery. for such big animals, they can be so fragile sometimes.
