base or stand for a bird tree

I want to make a bird tree out of a small tree or large branch. I need ideas on a base and how to anchor it. I've considered using a small Christmas tree stand with a vinyl tablecloth underneath (however I'm having trouble finding one at this time of year) Another idea I saw here was to place it in a large pot and fill the pot with sand to weight it down. It would be nice if it could be easily moved from room to room. My bird is a greencheek conure. Thanks

Amy

the trees I have all have wood bases with rollers on them. makes it easy.
Just make sure you have alot of horizontal perches on the branch and it is bird safe. If there are vertical perches they cant climb.
here are mine...........

I bought a plastic planter and a drip pan in the same color. I put a hole in the drip pan the same diameter of the tree and set it in the top of the planter after making the base heavy enough so it wouldn't tip. Then I added extra stability by weaving hemp rope around the tree and through holes around the planter.

On a site once (can't remember where though) I saw someone took an old desk chair and stuck a piece of PVC pipe into the chassis (with the wheels and all) and then put the tree into the top part of the pvc pipe. that way the can roll it around from room to room!

You could buy a large plastic pot, and a bag of easy cement to weight it down!

You could also get some plywood and SHOWER BOARD cut to the same dimensions. You would glue the showerboard on top of the plywood and then you would drill the base of the "tree" into that flat, square surface.

Shower board wipes clean very easily. But it's thin. You need something to anchor it, and that's what the plywood is for. You get both materials cut to size at your local home store.

Many of the expensive, pre-made playstands use shower board for the base because it wipes clean so easily.

The advantage of a cement pot is that it's much heavier, for bigger birds. The advantage of a board base is that it cleans easier and extends farther to catch more waste from landing on your floor.
