I've never heard that apple tree bark is bad for birds.

I usually use a knife if I'm shaving bark from a branch :)

you don't have to remove apple tree bark. you just have to be really careful and know the history of the apple tree it probably says to remove the bark because of the spayed pesticides, but that actually soaks into the wood so it wouldn't be safe with or without the bark. just make sure it's pesticide free.

I have been using apple wood for my chins and birds for years. I boil the wood, scrub it, and then bake it at 300 for a few hours, or until dry. Gets any dirt and bugs off and also makes the house smell great! I leave the bark on, they enjoy chewing it off.

Dremels FTW!!!!!!!!

My birds enjoy fresh branches... so I don't typically remove the bark, or leaves... but that does mean I might be bringing in bugs and poo from other birds... but my birds prefer green branches to dried branches...

Usually when they say to remove the bark it's because the bark is likely to carry fungi/bacteria/etc.

Also, I know that apples produce cyanide at some point...so I'd make doubly sure this is not the case with the bark.

Dremels are YES! But some woods you can just peel or scrape or scrub the bark right off. Just depends on how tough it is.....

Dremels, again, are your best friend. AT least, they're mine. 0 - 0

Could I use our Dremel to take the bark of an Oak limb for KeeWee? I read a couple sites now that say just the leaves and bark is bad.
