Hello

Hello, my name is Heather and I have been reading posts for a while and decided to come out of the shadows and say Hi. I recently got my first bird. Quincy is a blue masked lovebird, I've had him for about two months. His vet check was good. I do have a few questions though, I don't think he was hand feed, he doesn't like to come out of his cage, but once I get him out he will step up and stay on my shoulder for a while. He mostly just wants down to run around and explore, will he eventually want to stay with me more?

Hi Heather and welcome. Aw you have a lovebird, they are such cute little birds. Sure he will learn to want to be with you more. Just be patient and keep working with the step up.

Hi

Hello and welcome to the BirdBoard :)

I do love the beauty in the wee lovebirds.

I do think all young birds go through a "stage" wether they are handfed or not. They all have to grow up which means pushing boundaries, exploring, and not always being the bird we'd like. But your building trust right now so try and be patient.
I know it can be hard as I a youngster in the house, who is finally paying attention to me........which also means he has opinions about where he should be taken too and such, the bedroom vs his playstand :)
I am trying to expose baby to lots of new things, and he is learning trust.
Do take baby away from familiar areas to work with them. As it is REALLY hard to get them to pay attention if they see thier "home"!!

Enjoy the board, ask question, post replys, even start a thread if you like..oh yeah post pics whenever you like :)

Hello and welcome to Bird Board. I also have a Lovie and he also likes to be on my shoulder when I feed the other birds. They are the little birds with the big personality.

Thanks for the welcom

Thank you for the warm welcome. I will see if I can post some pictures of my little lovie. Quincy is much more calm in the evening I can usually take him out of his cage without problem. Is this normal or is it because he is getting sleepy. Don't worry though I don't keep him up late, I worry about him getting enough sleep. His cage is near the living room and we are usually up late with the tv on, but he seems to sleep, gets in his happy hut and tucks his head down. Well thanks again for the welcome, I'm sure I will have a lot more questions, all the posts on the board are great so I know I get great advice.

Welcome to birdboard!! I would love to see pics of your little lovie!!

I have a lovebird (fischer's) named Mango. I don't believe that he was handfed but now he is a fun little companion. I noticed that he is pretty independent and likes to fly around to find things to play with or run around the floor and only occassionally coming back to see me.
