Hello
I already posted an introduction on the Ringneck board, but I thought I better do it here too. My name is Lisa and I have three fids. 2 male cockatiels 1 named Tinkerbell and 1 named Princess. My daughter named both of these birds thus the girl names. My 3rd fid is an Indian Ringneck named Tiki.
I turned into a bird lover when we got Tinkerbell as a pet back in January. My father was in his garage when he heard a bunch of squawking going on in his front yard. He went out to see what was going on and here was this poor cockatiel being attacked by two crows. My father recused the tiel and after no success of finding the owners my father gave this little bird to my daughter who named him Tinkerbell. Well we felt guilty for leaving poor Tinkerbell alone alot, so we bought him a friend. Since we didn't want babies, we purchased another male cockatiel about two months later, who my daughter named Princess. At the time I did not know about quaratining birds, (so we got lucky that neither had any illnesses) and we let them play together for a couple of hours outside the cage and then we put them in together. Well they got along fine for the first couple of months, but as Princess matures they fight like two little siblings over EVERYTHING - perches, which food dish they are going to eat out of, toys, etc. etc. etc. Their fights are nothing major and nobirdie gets hurt, it is just alot of squawking going on!
After learning more and more about birds and falling in love with these two little guys I started researching bigger birds and decided that an Indian Ringneck was what I wanted for my birthday. Well my birthday still isn't for a few weeks, but since breeding season was over and baby IRN were being weaned, I had to make it an early birthday present, so I have had Tiki since June 1st. Tiki is the funniest, smartest bird I have ever had the pleasure of being owned by. He is already trying his best to learn to talk. The breeder told me his mother had a 200+ word vocabulary! He also loves to play with his monkeys - the kind from the game Monkey's in a Barrel - and his baby toy link/rings. I hang both on this cage top perch and he drops them to the floor to see how many times I will pick them up for him! He has also taught himself how to remove the links off the perch as well. I will post a movie of him doing this, it is quite funny. I am glad I found this website and plan on visiting here often.
