Question help with new parrotlet

Hi, I have two Cockateils, and will be getting a year old Green Rump Parrotlet
soon from a friend. Poor little thing lost her mate two months ago, and hasn't been handled. Hope I am not adopting a problem child. Should I keep the new girl in a seperate room from my other two male Teils , whom share a cage?
I am willing to do whatever it takes to make her happy. I have two Maltese dogs, will there barking be a problem? Veronica is a barker, but Lizzette only barks when she "actually" sees something
I haven't met my new baby yet, so I will write with specific questions after she arrives, Glad to meet everyone, hope to have lots of fun with you all, in our love of our feather-babies.:
Also, why does almost everyone say "Parro-lets" Instead of "Parrotlet"?
Even the people at the pet stores?

At first they'll need to be in separate rooms unless the new one has already be quarantined.

After that I think it depends on what the birds prefer. Hopefully someone else who's had a similar experience will chime in. (I'm a one-bird gal)

Post thanks for the help to a newbe

Thanks, I'll be sure and put my new baby in a seperate room, and take her to my bird vet. Guess all the hillbilly's here in Ky. say parrolet. If I try to correct them they tell me "no" it's parrolet. Can't wait to get her, I have decided to name her Amy, unless when I finally get her she doesn't look like an Amy, you know how that goes

Some mispronounce it here as well

Drives me batty, but a lot of folks up here in MD call them "parrolets", too. I correct them all the time- stubborn and pushy as I can be. But, my lovely blue girl is a p-a-r-r-o-t-l-e-t. (I think it is just laziness)

I thought it also was the typical Baltimore/Bawlmer accent where they destroy others word pronunciations. They say "payment" instead of "pavement" for example.

Anyway... about your bird. I would definitely quarantine and get a vet visit done to protect your other birds from possible illness. Expect to, most likely, get your fingers punctured if the bird has not been regularly handled and especially if it was bonded to another bird instead of a human. It will take some time and patience to retrain him/her.

I would be very careful around your dogs since a parrotlet is so tiny compared to the tiels. One chomp, even playfully, and you could have a disaster. As for noise, it depends on what it has been exposed to in the past as to how it reacts. (Sorry- don't recall if you said your newby is a he or a she)

Good luck and congrats!!!!
