Red face New here from RSA

Hi

I just wanted to introduce myself. I am the lucky owner of three ringnecks. Snippertjie (green), Blue Bean (blue) and Sunny (yellow). None of them are tame. I got them from family who immagrated. I also have a handreared cockatiel named Schumacher. I love all my birds dearly. I need some advice on breeding because Blue Bean is sitting on eggs and I am completely clueless on what to do .

Welcome to BirdBoard! Sounds as if Blue Baen is female, so is Sunny or Snippertjie a male? And have you witnessed any mating going on between the formed pair, if you have one? If not, the eggs may be infertile... you can wait till all the eggs are a week old and put a bright light up to them to see if you see any veins... where are the eggs located at?

welcome

Welcome to the BirdBoard :)

I love IRNs, I have only one at this time but I really enjoy them. I would get another if I had the room, mine is quite tame and very vocal (in a good way) defintely a bird I would like more of :)

Not too sure about the breeding thing, I hear they breed easily.

Sounds like you love your birds, you have come to the right place to find fellow bird lovers :)

Enjoy the board, post question, replys, maybe post pictures, as we would love to see your feathered friends :)

Your right! Blue Bean is the female and Snippertjie is the Male. Sunny is also female (she was the first female but didn't like the male). At this stage Sunny just tries to stay out of the way. Snippertjie and Blue Bean are very agressive at the moment. They even attach me when I feed them (which is very unuasal). The breeding box is very difficult to reach because it is at the back in the corner of the cage. Blue Bean only leaves the box when I desturb the cage. Snippertjie feeds her. She has been in the Box for just over two weeks now.

Hi Tiki. I am from lovely Johannesburg. The family I got the IRN from immagrated to Aus. First Melbourn but now they live in Brisbane. We are going to visit there in Desember. I am getting a man to come and stay in our house to make sure all the animals are well taken care of. We sometimes struggle with cats frightning the birds. I hope Shumacher will be ok. He is very attached to me and hates men especially my husband. He goes nuts when my husband hugs me.

The nestbox should be near the middle or top of the cage so that way the pair can feel more secure in their surroudings. If you have all three caged together, you may want to remove the lone female so that she doesn't cause any problems, especially if you end up having chicks.

Cool! When it gets closer to the date of your trip, PM me. Maybe we can meet up somewhere. No bird shows in Dec, there are places like Currumbin and O'Reilly's to see wild birds. IRNs are very popular here. I am very attracted to a type of ringneck called Malabar Parrot-but they are a bit pricey so I may have to wait a bit.

Can I move the box now or should I wait untill after the breeding season? I'm scared she will leave the eggs if I bother them to much. At the moment I'm feeding them A parrot seed mix. I also give them pear or apple and peas, sweetcorn or carrots. Is this sufficient. Must the diet change when the little ones hatch?
