Smile Hi :)

I just joined here tonight and thought it would be a good idea to briefly introduce myself.

My name is Terri, I'm 23 years old and live in Kentucky with four budgies and two cockatiels. The birds keep me incredibly busy and some people might even say I'm a bit obsessed but I just want to keep them as happy as possible.

I love meeting new bird lovers and sharing information so I'm looking forward to participating in this site! I'm a member of a few other bird communities and have seen a familiar name or two here so maybe some of you will recognize me from elsewhere. :)

I was hoping you'd introduce yourself! You do already seemed quite knowledgeable though I think I should dig up a couple of budgie photos for you to see (the males we were talking about in another thread).

Welcome to BirdBoard, and I hope you enjoy it here!

I'll have to see about that white male with the blue cere, though here is one that doesn't have the blue or pink cere... it's somewhat whitish (well, actually I can't describe it, but it doesn't quite look pink either).

Any idea how old this one is? It's a bit hard to tell from the pictures but here's my opinion anyway:

The cere looks the color of a young budgie's cere. If it is a young bird, I would say it is female because of the white rings around the nares. I can't tell how distinct they are, but if they are distinctly white it's probably a young female.

If it's an adult I would say it's a male because it is a recessive pied budgie and while the cere doesn't appear perfectly pink, it does look like that baby-ish pink/purple color.

Welcome, Terri.

Glad you decided to join us. I don't know a lot about smaller birds, but I have a few large ones that keep me pretty busy too. You're correct, only bird folk understand that it takes a great deal to maintain healthy birds correctly.

That budgie is indeed a male as he raised a family with another budgie (female of course!). In those photos, I assume that he is atleast a year old, as those were taken last year 2004. There's more here http://climate.uvic.ca/people/ewiebe/eggs/

LOL! They are adorable! Poor Sherbert though passed away earlier this year... She was so lovely! I'm seeing what I can do about that white male with the blue cere, however am not having too much luck as of yet (just started a search...)
