Hello

My name is Gary. I have 7 Macaws.

7 macaws! Yep.

A month ago, our 2 (that is right, 2) Scarlets were spending the day outside in their favorite tree on our 7 acres when the male was killed by an owl, we figure. This had been the first summer we had given them this much freedom.

After 15 years having a bonded pair of Scarlets, my life seemed shattered. I was lost and depressed. My wife and I cried all the time. I felt I was a bad friend to my Macaws to let this happen. I was crushed.

The following weekend in a far away city (7 hours) was a bird show. I packed up the diesel puller and off we went. In the middle of the day, our tears were still flowing, but now they were falling on a almost weened male Scarlet macaw. Very sweet disposition and very loving.

The next week there was a large bird auction in Missouri and guess what? 5 more macaws were added to our tears. Do all these macaws replace "Bucks" our precious dead friend? No, never. However the extra choirs keep us busy and we forget how much we lost.

So we have as family members:

Sa-Sa - 15 year old female Scarlet
Baby Bucks - full feathered baby male Scarlet
2 breeding/bonded Green-wings
1 Green-wing male
1 Blue & Gold female
1 Military as yet unsexed.

Sent for kits to test blood work from Avian Bio Tech. New family from action are all in isolation. Baby bucks is from a reputable breeder so he did not go to the separation unit, but lives in his own house as the female Scarlet is a bit of a Bi^%h sometimes. She loves me and really does not miss the dead Scarlet.

Hello and Hi to all.

When you reply, if you go to the Advanced button (or when you start a new thread), there is a yellow square above the reply field, which looks like it has two mountains and a "sun" in it. If you mouse over this small image, it'll say "Insert Image". You could also go to Additional Images (scroll down the page) and click on Manage Attachments. From here, you'll be able to upload images from either your computer, or from another website. You'll be able to upload a total of 5 at a time.

Once done, click Submit!

You can view more info if you look in my signature, and for easiest viewing of all members, it'd help to keep images around 500x375 if you direct-link to them, or use a thumbnail image (which some free hosting sites such as Photobucket, Webshots, and others will give you)

Welcome! I'm sorry about your scarlett... I know how it feels to lose a bird. The empty space can never be filled, but someone else makes a space that makes the empty one not feel so big :)
