Welcome to Birdboard. Sounds as though you have quite a flock there. I do too, and my Amazon "D" is the sweetest one in my bunch. As for putting your picture up, click on "quick links" at the top right hand of the screen. Then click edit Avitar. You can choose one of theirs or upload a photo of your own. If you use your own photo, you will have to alter it to the smallest size. I am not real computer savy so you may need a little more help than I am able to give. Glad to have you with us.

Thanks for the welcome.
Dear Kim,
Thanks for the welcome and the info. I got an Amazon avatar up and will have my boys work on the picture. I do have non-avian family members too. Husband and 4 children. Plus my mother-in law that got me started with birds. Initially I got Horacio for her, but he bonded more with me. Like most people, I bought first and asked questions later. The first thing we did was clip his wings. Then we put him on a perch and he tried to fly off. He fell and dislocated his little hip. I was devestated. So I took him to the only avian vet in Tijuana and he fixed him and said he would heal but needed to be kept immobile for a month. I booted out the hamster and put Horacio in the plastic house where he could stick his head out to eat. Strangely we bonded this way as I had lots of opportunities to pet him on the neck and head. I learned a lot about him, like when he wanted more food, he just dumped the food dish upside down and looked at me. Needless to say, I've learned a great deal. He has had no more problems with his health and we are a happy family once more. From your picture, "D" looks a lot like Horacio. How old is he? Does he have kind of lilac feathers on his head and yellow cheeks? This is so much fun to talk to someone who is a bird lover too. Hugs and parrot pecks, Elena |

Elena,
D is a Red Lored Amazon. We adopted "her" last March from a rescue in Atlanta. She is at least 15 years old. She came to the rescue very sick with Aspergillosis. She stayed at the rescue for about 5 years, I think. They thought "she" was a "he" and named her Duke and put her in an aviary with other Red Lored's.(Obviously after she was treated and no longer sick) Things went from bad to worse and she got the reputation for being very very loud. At some point they did a DNA test and found that she was female but they continued to call her Duke. Once we adopted her, I felt she was too petite and sweet to have a boy's name, so we shortened it to D. D does not talk and prefers not to be petted but she will step up to just about anybody. What type Amazon is Horacio? Here's D's close up.

Hola Graestone
I love your little Flasher.
Too cool.I was reading the section about 10 things you don't know about me when one of my sons closed it. (Funeral Services are pending). Could you please redirect me. I was on page 5 of 14. It is so interesting. You spoke of yourself as an old fart. Well I guess I qualify as an old fartette. This board is fantastic. Thanks for the welcome. I wish I could cross my little Darling Horacio, but he doesn't have his Green Card. Just green feathers. I put his picture in the album under Amazons. Peace and Parrot Pecks, Elena |

Hello and welcome to BirdBoard Elena.
Quite the family you have there. My first bird was a Yellow Nape that hated people and loved the color red as in blood also. Looking forward to hearing about your birds.

Elena,
I looked at the photo you posted and Horatio looks like a red lored amazon to me too. I don't know a whole lot about them, but I think that they are on the endangered species II list(someone please correct me if I'm wrong) I believe that means that their species is declining in the wild due to decrease in their natural habitat. Horatio is quite the looker, but alas it must be a long distance romance as I don't believe I will be able to bring her across the border to see ya'll. LOL Just kidding. I don't plan to put D into a breeding situation. I think there is another person on this board with a red lored amazon. How large is Horatio? He looks huskier than D. She weighed in this month at 360gms. She is quite petite, but I don't know what the average weight for the breed is.
