GREETINGS from "The MILE HIGH City"...

Hi, Gang...I'm Doc Dryer - 'da NEW KID on the block...

I'm a Custom Shop Luthier {one who builds and repairs stringed instruments - in MY case - mostly guitars} with a small Mom-Pop shop in a West suburb of Denver {Wheat Ridge}, and for STARTERS...

You guys have a VERY INFORMATIVE, COOL WEBSITE here !!!

My Wife {Cindy} and myself are "empty nesters" as far as crumb-crushers, but are EXPECTING here sometime between Halloween and Thanksgiving - a hand-fed baby Blue and Gold Macaw from a regular client of mine who also happens to be a long-time, established breeder in CA...

...I'm CERTAIN that we have TONS to LEARN about these big guys, and I REALIZE that the FOLLOWING STATEMENT is REALLY comparing APPLES and ORANGES {...PROBABLY MORE like comparing APPLES and the SPACE SHUTTLE - LOL}

BUT...I DO have a LITTLE Avain experience - I was an active falconer for 21 years, was also VERY SUCCESSFUL at BREEDING raptors in captivity {I was one of the FIRST as well}, and was involved with the falconery "mascot" program years ago at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs - PLUS...my education includes studies in both Ornithology and Veterinary Medicine...

SO - I know a LITTLE about what makes birds "tick" - but I'm SURE that the "way of thinking" between a Macaw and a Peregrine are WORLDS APART !!!!

Anyway, a higher-end 32"x42"x72" cage is in place, and I'm currently fabricating two playstands - one for in the house, and one for my shop {which is a separate structure on the same 1/2 acre lot as our home}, and I have EXACTLY a 20-STEP COMMUTE from home to work...Also, with being self-employed and my work and home being at the same location, it will allow me basically 24/7 to spend with our newest family member...

...at ANY rate, I feel PRIVELEGED to be a new member of such a mature, knowledgeable, sharing group of individuals that share one common goal, and look forward to the learning/sharing experience !!!!

Thanks Again,

Cindy, Doc and Samson Dryer

Welcome to Birdboard! I think you're gonna be a wonderful asset to the board and love the fact that you worked with raptors. I just love them.

As for a baby BG, I have 4 and I absolutely adore them. Wonderful, fun and inquisitive creatures that keep me on my toes. I had some bird friends over this weekend and they can tell you just how clever they are. My youngest male, Sailor, successfully managed 3 "prison breaks" in a matter of less that 45 minutes. Get ready for the best ride in the park!

Welcome to the best board on the net! Although I am owned by 2 b&g's, my favorites are the cockatoos!
Again, welcome!

Welcome to Birdboard! I have a serious case of macaw envy since most of my friends have one and rave about them, I know I would love one but they are too expensive here. But I would like to hear about yours!

Jealous! Studies in Ornithology AND Veterinary Medicine??? I'm planning on possibly doing both courses, maybe even a bit further into Avian Medicine, but it'll be a while still!

Raptors you say? OOO LOVE them! My fav being the Gyr Falcon, and if not them for birds of prey, the Barn Owl.

I can see you already love it here! And you'll get so much information that you may not know what to do with it! LOL Congrats with a B&G! You'll be sure to have fun! And welcome to BirdBoard!

Hello,
I'm residing in the people's republic of Boulder here, like the city but not like minded :)
I've just been told that eggs are now laid at my aviary and am waiting for a B&G of my own in the next 5 or so months (although I may go with a greenwing).

I'm aware Colorado has active falconeering, I'd be itnterested in any info you have if you have a moment to email me.

Thanks
Jared
