Smile Hello From The Uk

Hi everyone,
A nice chap informed me about this site as somewhere similar to the UK forum I help moderate called Parrot-Link.co.uk. As an introduction to myself I've cheated a little and copied my Profile from there:

Motorcycles are in our blood - over 30 years each in building and riding. We mostly keep Vintage british bikes but also have a Cossack sidecar outfit and a HD Evo. My speciality was building trikes from those great little 3 wheeled cars the Reliant Robin.
I was seriously into showing and working (obedience, work trials, agility) my dogs - Giant Schnauzers then German Wirehaired Pointers but am now not-well-abled so am home 24/7.
My past experience as a Canine Behaviourist has now changed paths to me working with parrots - specialising in running a free helpline trying to bring harmony to parrots and their owners so birds can stay with their people (wherever possible) rather than start the 'For Sale' route.
I only take in 2 or 3 birds a year as rescues which are then lifetime-adopted out to approved homes as best suits the individual parrot.
Our most recent addition is a 45+ year old Festive Amazon (Jo-Jo) whose previous owner's wife has Alzheimers so has come here to live out her days ... hopefully many years. She is a placid old soul and rapidly seems to be regaining joy in life.
My other time consumers are .... Parrots and Parroty things, my long suffering and loverly Hubby, eBay, the Quantock Hills (in Somerset where we live), our dog Pebbles and KEEPING SMILING.

In the Uk Festive Amazons are incredibly rare (like mine they were brought over singly by sailors in the early 1960s) so there is no information at all on keeping them. My Old Girl is a wonderfully friendly parrot who loves to lie on your chest resting her beak on your chin for hours.
She is not like any other Amazon I have come across ... even her feathering is different - much denser and more like an Eclectus than an Amazon.
Are they more common in the US?
Can anyone share experiences with me?

Anyway, enough from me .... look forward to meeting you all and why not pop over to Parrot-Link and visit?

Welcome Roz:

Its great that you decided to join us here at Birdboard. I'm Nancy, aka the Outlaw, and I'm at your service should you need any help navigating. It can be tricky at first.

Sounds like you'll be a very interesting addition. Again, welcome.

Thanks for that!
The differing time-zones will be a bit unusual .... it's 2.37am Monday morning here so time for me to go to bed.
Look forward to chatting to you all soon.

Hi Roz and welcome.

I dabbled in dog training back in high school. One of my younger sisters is really into it. She's especially into agility. My dad has built her an agility course for practicing at home. She runs a sheltie, as I did when I was into it. She's trying to get into sheep trials, but first she needs to find someone with sheep to lend

It's great that you're helping people with their parrot behavior problems. One day, when I have enough time and experience under my belt, I'd like to advise, as well.

Sounds like you'll be a great addition to the board!

Hello

Hello Roz, welcome to the BirdBoard :)

You will find bird lovers from all walks of life here :)

And you will find many m-cycle peoples here also (I have a newer BMW).
But I love older m-cycles...do you have Triumphs?? Nortons??

Nice to hear of your Zon story...she sounds wonderfully happy in her new home :)

I showed dogs in confirmation for many years...never been one much for training so I stayed out of those rings where you frequented :)

Enjoy your self :)
