About time I introduce myself...

Hi all!

My name is Brittany, and I've been hanging around a bit trying to learn about the bird best suited for my (future) lifestyle. That lifestyle being the eventual college apartment dweller (which is anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 years from now).

I figure its best to start researching birds now so that I'll be ready for [almost] anything when I actually move out of state for college.

The birds on my list are a Bronze Winged Pionus or an Eclectus (haven't looked much into subspecies with this bird). I just can't wait.. but obviously, I'll have to . As another poster said, I'm one of the "hold-outs"!

Hi Brittany,

welcome to birdboard!! I'm sure you'll love it here. There's lots of information to be learned and you came the best place for that. I will tell you, I've learned so much in the time that I've been here at birdboard.

Living in an apartment, I would think that a Pionus wouldn't be a bad choice. I know they're fairly quiet and make wonderful pets. Ekkies are up there on my list of birds to get. My list consists of Greys (both Congos and Timnehs), Greenwing Macaw and Eclectus (male). One day that list will be fulfilled. I'm working on the Timneh right now.

Anyway, welcome aboard......... Do your research and just enjoy the site here!! It's a grey't one!!!

Thanks tons for the welcome ^_^

I saw a red winged macaw at petco today named Mickey, he talked to me but I didn't feel safe petting him. the Caique below, Willy, him let my tickle his tummy though and was really quiet. I'd like to have a Grey (preferably Timneh) eventually also.. but have heard stories of neuroticism and am still looking into it though it isn't real high on my list of priorities :)

Thanks again for the welcome!

It's the Congos that can be a bit crazy, more so than the Timnehs. Timneh are very laid back, outgoing little feathered people. Congos also have their grey't points, don't get me wrong!!! The right fid will find you. don't worry.

Ollie and I take offense to that! I'm just kidding, but really, Ollie isnt crazy at all, yet... I know nothing about Pionus, so I'll stay out of this, but I do want to say that Ollie is just the sweetest, smartest, most beautiful little baby that I know!!! Don't rule out CAGs! I am in college, and live in an apartment, as you will be. Ollie is a great apartment bird! Anyways, welcome to the board, the people here are fantabulous, as is the information you will find!!

Thanks, cfulhage! I'll probably end up with a Grey at some point in my life, but I would hate to get one while in an apartment during college, only to find out that I'd have to get rid of it again. I'd feel more secure once I'm better established in a more permanent home (after making good friends with the neighbors, haha). I'd be heartbroken getting rid of a bird, and I'm sure he'd feel the same way (assuming he wasn't screaming at me to begin with )
