Hello bird lovers.

I love this site! I have been reading and learning tons.
My name is Lorraine(Rainy) mom to 2 boys,7 rescued guinea pigs, and 2 rescue cats.

My first bird was a Quaker named Calvin.I co-bought him with my sister 14 years ago.We visited him every day and learned how to handfeed him (only with supervision)When he was down to one feeding left we brought him home.He was the best bird I have ever met and I can still hear him talking, laughing, and his screaming to this day.He didn't scream often but loved to remind us that he knows how!We still to this day don't know why he passed away, the necroscopy came back showing inconclusive results. He lived for almost 3 years.

I don't have any birds living with me at the moment but I do co-own a Goffin Cockatoo who is currently living with my parents.I picked him/her before the egg was even hatched!I visited Cosmo daily as well and helped handfeed(supervised)until Cosmo was ready to come home.Cosmo bonded with me so much that when I had my first son Cosmo became very distraught every time I breastfed and tried to attack my son.Putting Cosmo in his cage made things worse because then the plucking started.Thankfully my mom said Cosmo should try living with them until i'm finished breastfeeding. The plucking stopped and he loves living at my moms:)Cosmo is now 9 years old and still hates my first born son!Whenevr we go to visit we place the vaccuum cleaner beside my son because Cosmo won't go near the vaccuum.
One year when Cosmo and my parents are ready he will live with me again. It may be next year,it may be 5 years from now....Cosmo and I still have a special bond. I say co-own because I am very much still involved with Cosmo and help pay any vet, toys, etc he needs.
Sorry this was so long!

Welcome to Birdboard!

That's so sad about your little quaker... even sadder that you still don't know what happened.

I understand how it is to 'co-own' a critter that lives at your mom's. I had to leave my beautiful little sheltie at my mom's when I went away to college... for his own good, you know. Five years later, I'm still living in an apartment and Marty stays with my mom. He's got a big yard there and two girlfriends; I couldn't yank him out of that home for my cramped lifestyle. He'll probably live and die there, but that's okay. He's still my dog when I visit, and my mom still calls me every time he 'scrapes his knee'.

Listen to me babble! I'm sorry! At any rate, welcome to the board. You'll find a wealth of knowledge and friendly, knowledgeable people here.
