Welcome Candy,
Yes, so good to to have found this board before you buy a bird. Usually it's the other way around, either way this board will hopefully help you be ready for a new bird, when the time is right :) Oh the days before I had parrots....humm. I wonder now what kind of parrot I would pick if I had to start all over again, after knowing some behaviors, amount of work etc... Hummm I think I'd start with the same bird ~ a Cockatiel. But then again some peoples like to start off with the BIG guys. Ahh karumbia I think if I would have done that I'd be fingerless, eyeless and broke!!! But that's just me...enjoy the board, have fun and post whenever you like :) |

lol, Kristy. Thank you both for welcoming me. I've been looking at different breeds for some time. And I'm leaning towards lovies, Quakers, or Loris. They are all so beautiful. My parents had 'tiels when I was young and they were great birds. We had one who picked up my middle name and whenever he wanted out of his cage or a treat he would scream Marie! Marie! Marie! Marie!

One day I "might" have a bigger bird I think I'd love a Too but that would be a bad idea..just need to read this board ! I get enough Too stories to get my fix. So I think a Grey would fit me better..we'll see :) |

Welcome to Birdboard!
Out of the three you listed, I will have to say that quakers are probably more favorable. Lovebirds can be little bullies bossing others around, have high pitched screams, though if raised and tamed right can be cuddly. Lories are high energetic birds, their diet pretty much is sugar based (lorie nector, bee pollen, and lots of fruits!) so you need to expect to have a bird ALWAYS on the go and ready to do something fun! However, because of their diet, they tend to always have watery droppings, and some even learn how to shoot their droppings! Quakers tend to be calmer, if raised right, very cuddly, very sweet, loves to play with toys, or even to eat, though if not socialized well enough could become one person birds, and they do have a loud scream (not as high pitched as a lovie, but still loud!).
