Hello from Western Canada

Hi Everybody:

I'm a newbie from sunny southern Alberta. I live Coaldale, Alberta a small town of about 7,000 near Lethbridge. Coaldale is 65 miles north of the U.S. border, 60 miles east of the Canadian Rockies and 135 miles SE of Calgary, home of the world famous Calgary Stampede.

I acquired my first parrots in 1993 as rescues; two Indian ringneck parakeets. My count is now 13 hookbills ranging from parrotlets to an Umbrella too. Nine of the birds are rescues that I have kept. I still do some home-based rescue as part of a provincial network of rescuers, although at the moment I am taking a break, having done four rescues in 2006.

The "Sadie" in Sadiemom is the head bird in my household - Sadie the rose-breasted cockatoo who rules here. Once I figure out how to put up my avatar, you will see His Majesty in all his glory.

Welcome to BB! Congrats on all your rescue work; we will look forward to your help with folks who have new (and sometimes difficult) fids. We'd love to see pics!

I hear you Monica. To me 7,000 is a neighborhood, given that I am from Chicago.

I will see if I can get a small pic of Sadie to load with my sig now that I know the score. Thanks.

Okey dokey. If my upload worked here are Bobo (BH Pi) and Hugo (BW Pi) in a fleeting moment of detente. Much of the time they bicker like siblings.

Thanks Monica. In this image are Sadie, the king to the roost here, and his pesky admirer, Chicken the tiel. They never paid any attention to each other until about a year ago when Chicken started to shadow Sadie wherever he goes. Sadie gets cross with Chicken but has never attacked him.

LOL! That reminds me of Noel and Casey! Casey was about 7 months old when she met Noel, who was supposedly 9-11 years old (although I don't know her real age). Casey loved Noel at first site! However, Noel didn't care for Casey at all... however slowly, Noel started to accept Casey, and then they formed a friendship.

This is a really old, and a really bad pic (taken with a camera that used floppy disks about 5 years ago... my, how photography has changed!), but I love it!

You can click it to enlarge...
