Smile Introducing Myself

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this site. My name is Maria. About a week ago I found a cockatiel by the side of my house and I've been Googling away to find out how to take care of him.

I've already figured out he's a boy, and he's stopped screaching (thank god!), now I'm working on figuring out what his favorite treats are. So far broccoli is a hit. I'm going to try corn and whole wheat bread next.

Welcome to BB!

Are you sure it is a male? And have you been looking for it's owners? Someone might be missing the little one...

Hi Maria,
Welcome to BB. Thanks for taking the little one in. We would love to see some pictures & if you look at the lost and found threads, you will find informationon how folks search for their fids, in case your little one has folks looking for him. Does he have a leg band? Mine love beans and rice!

Hi Everyone,

Yes we've posted pictures around the neighborhood, because he's got to be from around here. He didn't seem like he could really fly for a long period of time. No leg band and his toe nails seem very very long. I'm not sure if his wings are clipped, they don't look like it.

On the weekend I went door to door, both on my block and the one across the back lane but so far no luck finding his home.

I found him at 6:30am, he was exhausted and scared. The temperatures that night were about 8 degrees celsius (48 degrees farehiet).

He's obviously got to belong to someone because he seems to know a couple of tunes. I'll keep trying, but if I don't hear from anyone by the end of this week should I take him to a vet at least to have him checked out? He's starting to calm down a bit, like when I go to his cage to change food, water and paper he's quiet but very nervous.

I'm guessing he's a male because he has a very bright yellow head and two deep orange spots on his cheeks.

I'll try to get the pictures my brother took off of his computer to post. He looks really good, shiny feathers and full feathers. He doesn't like to be covered up at night so I don't cover him.

I'll try the beans and rice. I've tried corn, but he's not a fan. I've tried kale, parsley again no luck. He LOVES spray millet.

LOL! I've got two females that fit that description! Female no doubt by mutations and well.. eggs!

Tomi Girl - Pied - Female by stripes/spots - & Eggs!

Casey - Cinnamen Pearl Pied - Female by Mutation & Stripes/Spots - Eggs!

Sunshine - Pearl - Female by mutation alone, splut spots/stripes - and maybe 1 egg (or it was her mothers)

If the bird sings then that may lead to a good guess that it probably is male since females don't usually sing.

We do have a member on Canada who has lost two tiels....

A vet check would be a very good idea for a bird who has been flying around outside possibly without food.... good idea to also check local vet places as well as petstores and humane societies for lost birds...
