New bird mommy here!

Hi There, Lolita and I are new to this site, and need all the advise we can get. Lolita is my 3 month old baby Sun Conure. Both of us are getting use to each other, but so far she is a dear.
Any advise on training, cage placement, proper diet is great.
Also, this is the first time I have joined a group like this, so I am also learning my way around the site.
Thanks in advance.
Lolita's mommy...

Welcome to Birdboard! I don't know anything about Sun's, but I love your baby's name! Try going through the old posts in the Conure section for information, or post your questions there.

If you need any help navigating the site feel free to PM me! The people here are great, and you will feel right at home in no time!

As with any conure, you may want to teach them something that they can do quietly alone, such as playing with toys, whispering, or something to keep them busy. Suns especially can easily get bored and make a lot of noise! Many people buy them for their beauty to only rehome them later because the sun ended up being far noisier than expected. So being sure that your conure doesn't get bored will help a lot!

It's a good idea to put the cage in the livingroom if you can or wherever there is a lot of activity as birds like to feel like they are a part of the family. You want to be sure though that it's not somewhere near where there are a lot of drafts, or direct light but also making sure it's not too dark in the area either.

A good diet depends on what you are feeding as the base... Base being seeds and/or pellets. I personally don't recommend pellets though some people do believe that they are an essential part of the diet. A good diet however should have lots of fresh and cooked foods such as what you'd eat yourself. Just try to stay away from foods high in sugars, salts, fats, oils, etc. Don't feed chocolate, caffiene, carbonated drinks, avocados, or fruit pits. Just about everything else should be fine!

Welcome to BB!

Welcome to the board, I'd love to see pictures of your little Lolita! I don't have much advice on conures since I do not have one, but I'm sure you will be able to find a lot of advice & input around here.

Welcome Baby Lolita. I'm new here, too, and I also have a Sun Conure (Petey McSweet, age approx. 6 y/o). Monica is so correct when she says that they like to be right in the middle of everything! Petey is with me everywhere I go in the house (except the utility room)--kitchen, bedroom, even the bathroom! He loves being part of everything so much that he'll even shower with me, although from the look on his face, he doesn't so much "enjoy" it as tolerate it! He has a portable perch so he can sit next to me here. His cage is in between the dining and living rooms, and he loves sharing our meals with us, trying (but not necessarily liking!) everything. He's only been with us for a few months, and he was one angry little man when he arrived (he was separated and sold separately from a bonded SC of unknown gender), but except for an intense hatred of men that he doesn't seem to have any intention of "kicking", he is a happy, fun, talkative and dearly loved member of our family. I love the happy little clown--I'll bet you love yours, too :-).

HI THERE! I have a baby sun too! I got her 2 weeks ago and she's 3 1/2 months old now. Her name is Kiri. I LOVE the name Lolita. I'm trying to find the cord to my camera so I can post some pics. I'm interested to see how alike they look since they are the same age. Welcome to the board. This is a great place!
