Wink Just Flew In

... well actually a week or so ago.

I was invited here by Tammy (wildirish) ... we are in Summerville, SC.
I have had large birds for over 20 yrs, which started with a BFA I got at 15. My husband never had a bird until he met me We are also slaves to 8 human kids (4 girls, 4 boys - oldest is 12 ... youngest is 6) and 3 cats.

We are currently owned by Nelson (a/k/a Nelson "chicken bird" Smiff - 2 yr old male U2); Zoe (a/k/a Zoo Monster - 7 yr old female U2 w/ 5 homes prior to ours); Woody (a/k/a The Wood Bird - 13 yr old male U2 adopted from a Rescue; and 2 budgies (Bella & Tomi).

We operate a rescue for 'Toos only; officially 501(c)(3) since July '05. Our current rescues are Dookie (a/k/a The Dook Miester - 20+ female U2 - 1/2 nekkid) and Tootie (a/k/a Toot Bird - 10 yr old female U2) ... I would love to keep them all, but know I can't ... I cry everytime one gets adopted & worry about them more than I do my kids. Alex, Tangie & Missy were all adopted ... Missy by a friend of Tammy's (and she's spoiled rotten)!

You can see pics of our flock here: 'Too Haven's Flock

I am looking forward to sharing more, learning more and reading more.

Hi Dana - welcome to BirdBoard!!!!!!!!!!!!! I spent a lot of time on your website last night just looking, and thankful that there is someone out there who loves the cockatoos as much as I do. I loved the aviary and hope to get my hubby to build me something similar!

I came across that picture on the internet & saved it. I may eventually use it on my site ... I believe (?) it was taken in Indonesia and shows how little the people there think of their own wildlife. Sad really.

Most people tell me I'm crazy to have a house full of Toos. I love Toos! We built that aviary (the hubs 1st attempt & he did a good job) for less than $300. Size wise it is 8 x 14 and 14 high in the center. We started w/ a dog pen on sale for $99 @ Lowes and added the rest. I keep saying i'm going to take some pictures of it now that it is full of toys & completed ... those were right after we got it up. Right now we have it covered in thick plastic so they can still have some time out when it's a little chillier.

With 8 kids and 3 cats along with all those birds, I would guess more than her arms are tired!!! Welcome to a great board. Enjoy.
