Hi all I'm new from Kentucky

Hi I am a relatively new conure owner I've owned my GCC Paulie since Christmas of 2006. He was my Christmas present from me to me.
Paulie has fit into my family of 3 children 4 dogs 1 hamster 1 husband very well. Well yesterday I found a Blue Crown Conure his name is Tommy he is 8 yrs old and his first owner an older lady died sometime in the past. Apparently the people that were responsible for Tommy's owner's estate either didn't know how to care for him or didn't want to care for him properly and they locked him up and allowed kids to tease him. Well he ended up at the bird store last Saturday. And yesterday is where I came into his life and also my actions yesterday are the reason for my coming here. Tommy has some very serious aggression issues and there in lies the problem. So I guess I will be bugging everyone with questions about Tommy (BCC) and Paulie (GCC) from time to time. Hope I don't drive you guys crazy.

Welcome to the forum...I'm certain that folks with conures will come forward. I do not have a conure but I'm certain with a lot of love, patience and lots of time, you will gain his trust and hopefully the aggressive nature will subside. Unfortunately with the bird being teased, he is on the defensive. Poor guy. Thankfully, he found his way to you and I wish you all the very best with him. Lots of love and time will hopefully allow him to see that he is in a much better place. Please post pictures when you can.

Thank you Kiwi,
I think I just managed to make a bit of progress with him. I was able to have him step up onto my hand with a glove on and then sit for about 20 seconds then had him step off and he didn't bite the glove. I really wanted to pet him but everytime I tried with my bare hand he sort of lunged so I'm not wanting to push it too much too soon. I am positive that Tommy can and will be a very sweet and loving bird just like my Paulie is.

Wonderful! Keep up the consistency and work slowly and talk to him in gentle tones and I think you'll receive years' worth of rewards by the love he returns in a loving home. Good luck and I look forward to reading about your progress and success!

Hi and welcome! I accidentally answered your post in the "Get Help with Your Bird" section which is supposed to be reserved for the experts, but rather than double posting, I'll just link to my response: Need lots of help with abused/neglected Blue Crown Conure

I'm a huge fan of clicker training. It's done wonders for my Stewie's trust issues ... to the point where I seem to have trouble getting him off of me now, he always wants to hang out on my shoulder these days (which is a separate problem). But he also doesn't like being touched (anywhere/at all!). I just accept that as part of Stewie's personality and don't expect that he'll change.

So welcome to you and Paulie and Tommy. (Insert ususal disclaimers about immediate avian vet visit, proper cage size, need for plenty of toys, the need to be careful about food conversion, blah blah blah)

I posted on your other thread but wanted to mention that my BCC lunged when I tried to pet his head too.I don't push that so much anymore.I decided that if and when he lets me touch his head that'll be great but if not,I'll respect his wishes.Your bird's been through alot, just like mine. It's good that we each have another conure[mine's a sun]to cuddle and pet.
