New here! :) From Indiana
Hey everyone,
This is my first post at this board, so I thought I'd pop in and say "hi".
For those interested, here is our list of fids:
We've got eight birds; here are their bios. :)
Paisley is our Normal Grey Cockatiel. Right now she's 10 years of age and while not the oldest, she's the one we've had the longest out of our current crew... and a fiesty little booger she is. She knows not her size.
Ruby is a Solomon Island Eclectus and is an absolute baby! Spoiled rotten and hates all the other birds and other people, other than me. :) That's my girl. Ruby is now four years old
Posey is an Albino Indian Ringneck. She's a little sweetheart with a little spit-fire attitude on the side. Posey is now five years of age and LOVES to get head scratches.
Next, we have Lily, a Lilac Crowned Amazon. Her previous owner passed away a couple of years ago so she came to live with us. We didn't know much about her, except that she is a female. After her first vet check appointment, we found out that she's got an import band on her leg dated back to 1971, so she's got some age on her. But she's a nice little thing who is allowed to do as she pleases but prefers for us humans to keep our hands off. :) She'd much rather sit on a lap and watch some TV or curl up and "read" a good book with us.
And then there is Weasley. He's a Slate English Budgie who is just now over a year old. He's a little bossy boy who takes pride in outscreaming the larger birds. He likes kale and pomegranates and enjoys watching the large fish in the aquarium that is provided for Birdy Entertainment.
Simon came to us earlier this year and is an 11 year old Timneh African Grey. His previous owner kept him locked in his cage for the past ten years; she was afraid of him as he was not too fond of her either. In our home, he's got a sweet personality but doesn't like intruders in his cage. Outside of his cage, he likes to be held, played with and petted on the head. He's just been misunderstood and now he's a happy little parrot!
Mork and Mindy are the newest birdy additions to our family. They are a bonded pair of Blue Front Amazons, about ten years of age, and absolutely love each other. Mork will protect Mindy from any prying eyes (as if he's saying, "don't even look at my woman!") but they are also good natured and enjoy roaming free and interacting with the us. They are quite the pair.
Other than our birds, we've got some other critters as well. The four cats:
Levi, the oldest of the crew at 11 years of age as of this past Halloween. He's solid white, deaf and an odd critter. He's got odd behaviors that just make him Levi. He was our first pet after we got married and tends to be given a bit of "special" attention. :)
Diablo is the sweetest of the kitty crew. He's a 7 year old flame point Siamese and acts like a dog; he comes when called, sits and stays on command, and even enjoys walks around the block on his leash with tail stuck straight up in the air. He does not, however, enjoy the company of our dog and quickly instilled the feeling of fear in her when she came to live with us. He's definately the boss and the Protector of Kitties. If another cat meows or calls out, Diablo will be right there to defend him.
Gordon is the wild man. He's got a long story but it boils down to being hated because of his looks by his previous owners, which is why I took him in. I think he's adorable. He's partially hairless and may be a Sphynx mix. He's now 5 years of age and still has the personality of a 6 month old kitten; he's constantly getting into things he's not supposed to be in and he's quite cunning and deceiving. He knows how to blame his mishaps on other kitties. :)
Last is P-Kiddy. He's a 9 year old orange tabby who came to live with us August 2005. He was sickly and obese and couldn't get over his illness as he lived in a shelter environment that kept him stressed out. He was brought into the animal hospital where I work and I fell in love with him, so now he lives here and he's a big healthy boy...and on a strict diet! He's lost a lot of weight and is feeling fine. He's my happy "squishy" kitty who loves to smile and be loved on.
We have a dog as well. Heidi is a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog who came from Rescue when her elderly owner became to ill to care for her. She came to us at 4 years of age in 2003, and is now 8 years of age, which is very old for this breed. She's a good girl and our "little buddy". She also is on a strict diet as she has a horrible hip condition that cannot be fixed, so the less weight to carry the better. She's lost 30 pounds since being here and is now at about 80 pounds. :) She likes chasing kitties and lounging on the couch, but hates getting her feet dirty and taking her daily meds (although she is very good for it).
We also have seven fish tanks of varying sizes with hundreds of snails, many different kinds of fish and different set ups. We raise and ship snails across the country as well as some fish.
So, after that entire long and drawn out description, that's our crew. Otherwise, it's just my husband and I, no kids. He is a Design Engineer and Marketing Designer and I am a Veterinary Technician (certified vet. dental tech.).
That's our story. I'm glad to have found this board! It seems very active and full of a lot of great people!
Thanks!
