Perhaps the same reason people insist on purchasing the DVD's that show a fireplace on TV. Never really could figure that one out either.
Someone needs to come out with a spray that smells like the fire burning and sell it with the DVD. I'm sure this gimik would sell.

Some people actually have webcams on animals, even in zoos, and some people just enjoy watching the animals be themselves...
